Finest Beer Selection 2023: almost 250 beers received awards
The Finest Beer Selection 2023 was presented for the first time at a celebratory awards ceremony in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. 880 beers from almost 200 breweries from 18 countries competed in the new tasting format.
Finally, 248 beers were rated by the international jury of experts during the tasting in mid-October at Doemens with a Finest Beer Score of 90 or more points and thus made it into the Finest Beer Selection 2023, the selection of the best beers of the year.
The Lasser Adams Bock from the Lasser private brewery in Lörrach achieved the highest Finest Beer Score with 96 points, which was therefore named “National Beer of the Year”. The title of “Beer of the Year International” went to the black beer “Schwarz” from the Baeren Brewery in Japan. The expert jury gave it a Finest Beer Score of 95 points in the blind tasting.
In addition, the Gebr. Maisel brewery was named “National Brewery of the Year”. The Bayreuthers are represented with seven beers - including two wheat beer classics and five modern brewing creations from the Maisel & Friends brand - in the Finest Beer Selection 2023 and were able to achieve the highest average points with a Finest Beer Score of 92 points.
The best international brewery comes from South Korea with the Artmonster Brewery. It also makes it into the Finest Beer Selection 2023 with seven beers, which achieved an average rating of 92 points.

About the tasting format:
With the Finest Beer Selection, the cooperation partners Doemens and Meininger Verlag caused a stir in the industry and were immediately able to attract well-known partners such as Weyermann, Hopsteiner, Krones, Siemens, Rastal and Winterhalter. In contrast to usual beer competitions, the new quality seal is not a competition in which beers in each category are compared with other beers and a ranking is established. Rather, the concept is seen as a sensory test of excellence and serves as a transparent quality guide for all market participants - from the breweries, to the retail and catering trades, to the consumer. This is ensured by an easy-to-understand rating based on a 100-point system.
In addition to this Finest Beer Score, each brewery also receives an aromatic description of the beer, the Finest Beer Profile, in the form of a spider web diagram and a cut-out photo of the beer. //gz
